Hip-Hop Challenged
Sometimes I like a good challenge. That’s exactly what this video by hip-hop artist Danny Hoch is, challenging. He deftly challenges what-is and what-is-not hip-hop culture and he strongly leverages the fact that he’s a white guy delivering the message.
I’m by no means into hip-hop. This video piques my interest. Beware, if your ears are easily offended by cursing, this is not for you.
I came across Danny Hoch while watching the behind the scenes of Seinfeld Season 7. Apparently Danny was hired to play the part of the pool boy, Ramone. When he arrived on set he discovered that they were quite insistent that he do the character with a Hispanic accent. He felt this was beneath both he and the Hispanic people and didn’t end up being in the show. He went on to incorporate this incident into his own one-man-play. You can see part of it here.
His show was later referenced in a different episode of Seinfeld where Kathy Griffin did a one man show called “Jerry Seinfeld is the Devil” (or something like that).
