Useless Information

Useless information from my random world

Manly Portraits

In a photo class I took last year, I was told to take 100 pictures a day. This exercise did two things: 1) Made me a better photographer 2) Exhausted my children. My girls got SICK of having their pictures taken. As part of the class, at least once a week I had to go out and take pictures of people I didn’t know. These are some of the portraits I took on those “stranger” assignments.

My Kids Dress Themselves

Dressing ThemslevesWe let our daughters dress themselves. It’s an intentional choice on our part. But the consequence is that they sometimes don’t dress the way we’d like them to. As we noticed that one of our daughters loved layering her clothes in strange combinations I encouraged my wife to start taking a picture every day before school.

India

Bride and GroomMy family traveled to India to be a part of my brother Ben’s wedding. His wife, Priya, is Indian. It was a fun trip and the wedding was so different than anything I’ve seen.

Matt & Amanda’s Wedding

These are pictures from my brother’s wedding in Indianapolis. He and his wife, Amanda, were a lot of fun to shoot and they were good sports by doing everything I wanted to try.

Monthly Portraits

PortraitsThis is a collection of the portraits I’ve been creating for my monthly e-blast. I’ll continue to add my new images here so that I can have one place to see all of them.

Santiago Canyon Panorama

hdrsantiago980

This photo took a lot more work in the office than it did in the field.  It’s a 7 photo combination.  Then on top of that it’s a combination of an HDR and a regular photograph.  I did 5 versions before I found a sequence of pictures that worked.  One problem I had was that [...]

An Experiment in Alert Mining

This post is just a way to sign “hi” to Bean.  I think we all know that the best way to reach you is via Google alerts. I wanted to communicate four things to you: 1. What’s the name of the URL you mentioned on the show? 2. Can you please give me free tickets? [...]

Heroic Designs – March 2009

cowboytimsm

As a little boy in rural Oklahoma I got to help my hero, a cowboy named Steve, brand a cow. As much as I wanted to be a cowboy for the rest of my life, little did I know that I would leave rustling cows behind but keep the branding iron with me. Now I help individuals and businesses develop their own brands (and yes, that is a picture of me above).

Money In the Bank

Save Money

I highly recommend listening to this episode of “This American Life”.  They totally explained the credit crisis in an easy to understand way.  To be honest, their explanation made me want to pull my money out of the bank.  The only thing that prevented me from making a run on the bank was that they [...]

World’s Largest Self-Portrait

I’m so inspired by artist who find new ways to use technology. The logistics for this project are mind boggling. I also love how small the world is becoming.
